Excursion Ouarzazate from Marrakech

Excursion Ouarzazate from Marrakech begins with an early departure at 07:00 to cross the High Atlas mountains via the magnificent and most beautiful road that winds the Atlas, the Tizin Tichka pass (2260m), one of the most undulating and most beautiful roads of Morocco where, they say, we successively discover the four seasons. From there begins the semi-desert with its Kasbahs and small clay houses, a contrast between the villages built in red clay and the green fields will dazzle you before arriving in Ouarzazate. The city of Ouarzazate marks the beginning of a journey by dazzling the traveler with two magnificent kasbahs, it is at the crossroads between the valleys of Draa, Dadès and Ziz. The first stopover point is Telouet, a village on the “Caravan Route” from the Sahara over the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. Telouet has one of the most spectacular Kasbahs in the Atlas, which was once the residence and seat of the powerful Glaoui tribe, former residence of Pasha Glaoui; last lord of the Atlas, Kasbah of astonishing beauty. Towers emerging from a mass of houses close together, push their battlements towards the blue of the sky, compete for first place in the sun. After Telouet, the circuit takes a side road with little traffic (weather permitting) to Aït Benhaddou, a “fortified city”, or ksar, located about 20 km before Ouarzazate. It is located on a hill along the Ounila River and is known for its kasbahs. Most of the townspeople now live in a more modern village across the river. However, ten families still live in the ksar. Aït Benhaddou has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and several major films have been shot there, including Gladiator and The Mummy. The stage of the visit is Kasbah Taourirt and Kasbah Tiffoultoute, the former residences of Glaoui (Old Pasha of Marrakech). Visit of these old residences: the Taourirt kasbah. On the way back, stop for photos at the foot of the most beautiful Ksour in southern Morocco. Looks like a medieval red earth village that has stood the test of time. Ouarzazate is the gateway to the Sahara and is located in a valley at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. It is also the capital of Moroccan cinema, with one of the largest film studios in the world. Several historical films have been shot there, including Lawrence of Arabia, Asterix and Obelix and Babel. The studio tour is open to the public. Free Lunch Return to Marrakech at the end of the afternoon
